We are Committed
to Supporting You!
At Peculiar Parents Network, we believe in fostering understanding, empathy, and a sense of belonging for everyone affected by infertility. Our mission is to empower individuals and promote awareness, ensuring that nobody has to face their solitude alone.
OUR FOUNDER's PERSONAL STORY
Where it all began...
From a personal Story to a Peculiar Parents Network!
I, Faith Makena Matiri, share my personal story to highlight the stigma of infertility in African communities. In many cultures, childlessness is linked to shame or curses, often placing the burden on women. This leads to isolation, strained marriages, domestic violence, and mental health challenges. Globally, infertility affects 1 in 6 couples, but in Sub-Saharan Africa its impact is magnified by cultural, spiritual, and economic pressures.
When I was getting married, I opened up about my condition to a friend.
His response was, “That’s funny! You mean you will be two men in the
house?” That was more than a joke—it was a statement of how my womanhood
was being measured only by motherhood. Not long ago, a neighbor died,
and no one was willing to dig her grave simply because she was
childless. Some believe burying a childless woman brings a curse, while
others claim only one’s children should bury them. This shows how
culture haunts even the dead.
To address such issues, I founded Peculiar Parents Network (PPN).
Vision: A world where no one is defined by childlessness but celebrated for their worth.
Mission: Breaking the silence through awareness, advocacy, and partnerships that integrate medical, psychosocial, and cultural perspectives.
Core Values: Compassion, Dignity, Inclusivity, Empowerment, Integrity, Collaboration.
PPN creates safe spaces, engages healthcare providers, and works with
community leaders while using media to normalize conversations.
Partnership Opportunities: Stakeholders can support through medical
expertise, mental health, research, training, policy advocacy, treatment
access funding, outreach, and global campaigns.
Infertility is a human condition, not a moral failure. Together, we can restore hope and dignity.
At Peculiar Parents, we shine a light on the often-unspoken struggles of parents who walk a different journey—those without biological children, yet whose love and sacrifice make them mothers and fathers in every sense. We tell their stories with dignity, challenging the cultural, religious, and social stigmas that label them as incomplete or cursed. Through real testimonies, we remind the world that parenthood is not only about giving birth—it is about giving love, raising hope, and building legacies.
Beyond storytelling, we create safe spaces for encouragement, healing, and advocacy. We stand with peculiar parents through mentorship programs, community support networks, awareness campaigns, and partnerships that break cycles of shame and silence. Our mission is to ensure that no peculiar parent walks alone, that their contribution to society is honored, and that the world learns to see them not as cursed but as chosen, impactful, and deeply significant parents.
